My Career Journey

Let me start off by saying I hate writing- like loathe entirely. But here I am trying to be an amateur blogger. So please go easy on me with this content and grammatical errors. The website Gods- Google, Instagram, Facebook and my husband all tell me I need to blog to increase the website traffic.

So here goes nothing…

One of my favorite questions I get from clients is, “What is your job history/experience?”

It actually concerns me when someone sits down in my chair for the first time and does not inquire at all into my history or experience.

So let’s go back, way back to when I was in middle school and high school. I’ve always had an obsession with makeup and skincare. In the days before the internet (thank you Al Gore) my beauty source was YM, Teen and Seventeen magazines.

I loved seeing ads for new products and would make lists of things I wanted to buy the next time I went shopping with my mom. I can remember my friend saying, “Whenever I buy a new product I know Cari has already tried it”. Now I’m constantly buying products from TikTok and Instagram influencers.

The moment my parents let me start wearing makeup I went ALL IN. It was full face makeup every day from then on.

In high school I wanted to go to esthetician school and become a special effects makeup artist. My mom told me that was not an option and I had to go to college. Waaa Waaa Waaa

Feeling unsure of what to do I tried out a few different majors and finally settled on nursing.

During nursing school I knew working 12 hour night shifts in a hospital was not the road I wanted to travel. So I was very lucky when my first nursing job I landed right out of college was at a dermatology office. (Fun fact nursing school is where Megan and I met)

From there I have worked at a couple of different dermatology offices. One being a large office with two doctors and a full service spa. (I mention this because this is where I started to feel the twinge of really wanting to get my esthetician license). I have also worked in plastic surgery offices and med-spa settings. All of this combined has given me over 15yrs experience in cosmetic/derm nursing.

After my daughter was born I stayed home with her for a couple of years. Of course I still had to have my hands in cosmetics somehow. So I found myself working nights and weekends as a regional makeup artist for Lancome.

It was during this time that I decided once and for all that I was finally going to get my esthetician license. So that is how I have the title as nurse esthetician.

I hope this gives you all a little insight into my “why”.

-Keep on glowing- Cari
